Our client is looking for a Transport & Warehouse Planner to keep HGV transport plans running efficiently and calmly—especially when things get busy. This is a fast-paced, office-based role where organisation, communication, and clear thinking under pressure are essential. Hybrid working isn’t available for this position.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be responsible for planning and coordinating the movement of HGVs across the operation to ensure efficient, timely, and cost-effective deliveries, alongside capacity and space planning within the warehouse environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Route planning: Plan and optimise HGV routes for efficiency, fuel economy, and on-time delivery.
- Fleet management: Monitor fleet activity and support compliance with maintenance schedules and legal requirements.
- Coordination: Liaise with drivers, customers, and warehouse teams to keep operations smooth and resolve scheduling issues quickly.
- Compliance: Support adherence to H&S standards, transport regulations, drivers’ hours, and vehicle compliance.
- Problem-solving: React quickly to delays/breakdowns and spot capacity issues early—creating plans before problems land.
- Documentation & reporting: Maintain accurate delivery/incident/maintenance records and provide performance reporting.
- Customer service: Provide updates and solutions for delivery queries.
- Cost management: Track transport costs (fuel, vehicle spend, etc.) and identify savings opportunities.
- Continuous improvement: Monitor KPIs (storage, efficiency, cost per pallet, throughput) and recommend process/tech improvements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with operations, procurement, and transport teams to align capacity with inbound/outbound schedules.
- Risk management: Identify potential problems, develop contingency plans, and ensure planning supports safety and compliance.
- Warehouse space optimisation: Support layout/slotting strategies to improve storage density and utilisation.
- Data analysis: Maintain capacity data and generate utilisation reports using WMS/TMS tools.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be highly organised, a confident communicator, and able to stay focused when priorities shift.
Essential:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in transport and/or warehouse planning
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Experience using WMS and TMS systems/tools
- Solid understanding of transport operations, driver schedules, routing, and compliance
- A can-do attitude and pride in delivering a great service
- Comfortable working as part of a team—collaboration is key
Desirable:
- Logistics/transport/supply chain qualification (helpful, not essential)
- UK driving licence (beneficial, not mandatory)
Benefits
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
- Option to buy up to 5 additional days’ holiday
- Some weekend working may be required during busy periods/emergency situations
