Project Engineer/Manager - Alcester - Salary £40,000 per annum - Full-time - Permanent 

Our Client is a British manufacturer of commercial wash facilities with a highly professional support network of factory trained engineers.

Our client is seeking a practical, hands-on project engineer with commercial awareness.  The role requires a general understanding of electrical, mechanical and civil engineering rather than more detailed expertise in just one field. The client tenders for and installs servicing equipment used in logistics, public transport & rail depots throughout the world and has a healthy and growing business both within the UK and internationally.  You will be responsible for the full business cycle from tendering through to on site supervision of sub-contractors.  This is an excellent opportunity for a generalist engineer to work with a high degree of independence and the opportunity to demonstrate a considerable amount of initiative.

The day-to-day duties of the successful Project Engineer/Manager role would include;

  • Managing a portfolio of projects with individual values up to £350k, you will be responsible for the overall delivery of works; ensuring works are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Provide technical support to sales on machine selection, performance and capability, both by phone and on site during customer facing meetings.
  • Manage KPIs for the delivery of all company projects.
  • On receipt of the customer order, to carry out a full survey of the site and create a project file with all the key details needed to plan the installation, i.e. site restrictions, civil works required, how the installation should be completed.
  • Working with our internal CAD engineer to create layout plans with how/where the machine is to be installed and organise any civil work requirements for which the client will be responsible with external contractors.
  • Review and adjust the appropriate standard Bill of Material to reflect the particular site requirements.
  • Communicate any civil work requirements and obtain quotations.
  • Brief the job and issue install pack to the appropriate installation teams 1 week prior to the installation date and to be available to provide technical support should they encounter problems once on site.
  • Work with engineering and service departments to help develop better products and improve installation efficiency.
  • Carry out detailed reviews of the delivery programmes submitted for the acceptance by the Client/Project Manager
  • Proactively manage discussion on design issues to ensure the client has a full understanding of the product and can therefore sign off the Contractors Proposals to the required deadlines.
  • Assess the Contractors Proposals for compliance with the Works Information.
  • Ensure the involvement of the CDM-C in appropriate issued and at appropriate times.
  • Review and comment on documents issued by the Contractor and the Client as well as interested 3rd parties to ensure that they accurately represent the project requirements.
  • Prepare, with the support of other team members, an agreed periodic report for issue to the Client, detailing progress on all aspect of the project

To be considered for the Project Engineer/Manager role you will need to have:

  • A good level of understanding of both mechanical and civil engineering aspects which might have been gained from delivering civil/electrical/mechanical projects would be advantageous.
  • General understanding of Mechanics, Electrics, Hydraulics and Pneumatics.
  • Familiarity of working with electric motors, drive shafts, pumps, gear boxes & PLC’s/PCB’s would be advantageous, however full product training will be provided
  • Previous experience of delivering technical information through on site setting out and supervision of activities
  • Experience of dealing with the general public, preferably involving explanation and advice would be advantageous.
  • Up to date HSEQ knowledge and experience would be advantageous.
  • Professional individual who can earn the confidence of colleagues, customers and suppliers alike through their manner and approach.
  • Good communications skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to technical and non-technical people and to understand their concerns.
  • Attention to detail and an understanding of the key importance of providing accurate information
  • Able to use own initiative to find answers to problems and devise potential solutions but not afraid to seek advice/guidance from others when necessary.
  • Team player, able to get on with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
  • Goal driven individual who wants to get the job done well and on time.
  • Pro-active and enthusiastic approach, able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Submit reports and information as requested by the Managing director
  • Experience in delivering capitalised equipment projects from POS to commissioning.
  • Experience in attending customer sites to conduct site surveys for installation teams, assisting in the generation site specific drawings and BOMs in line with machine requirements.
  • Prioritise workload to ensure agreed deadlines are achieved and any delays in achieving are communicated well in advance.
  • Attending weekly/monthly review meetings as and when required.
  • Civil project or mechanical engineering background, with a proven record of involvement in the delivery of capital equipment projects
  • Competent on Microsoft Office – Word/Excel/Outlook/
  • Full clean driving license

  • The salary is £40,000.00 per annum DOE with the opportunity to further develop
  • 8.30am – 5.00pm including 30 mins for lunch Monday – Thursday.
  • 8.30am – 2.30pm including 30 mins for lunch Friday.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays per annum.
  • Pension. 3% employer & 5% employee.
  • Free parking at the factory in Alcester.
