Equine Yard & Care Assistant

Henley-In-Arden • £18,000 - £20,000 DOE • Permanent • Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work including bank holidays

An Equine Veterinary Clinic is seeking to appoint a full-time inpatient care assistant to join their dedicated team. Due to the nature of the position, some weekend and bank holiday work may be required.

The role would suit a versatile, reliable, motivated individual who is looking for a rewarding and challenging position in the equine veterinary industry.

Previous horse handling experience is essential in order to assist both veterinary technicians and veterinarians with the day-to-day care of their patients safely. The post holder will be solely responsible for the primary care of all equids staying within their facility with all the associated daily yard duties therefore previous yard experience is desired.

As an Equine Yard & Care Assistant, your main responsibilities will be to:

  • All general daily yard duties including biosecurity and infection control management.
  • To carry out clinical checks on all inpatients as set out.
  • Administer medications as and when required.
  • Maintain clinical records for inpatients
  • Assist both veterinary technicians and veterinarians with the daily care and treatment of their patients.
  • Responsible for admissions and discharges checking the daily clinic case list.

The Successful Equine Yard & Care Assistant applicant to be considered for this post:

  • Previous horse handling experience is essential, to include pleasure and competition
  • Horses including young stock.
  • Previous yard work experience is desired.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • To work well within a diverse team with the ability to take sole charge
  • A full driving license.
  • Basic IT skills.
